At DEK, we have delivered leading-edge screen printing solutions for advanced technology applications for over 40 years. Our history spans solar cell metallization, thick-film hybrids, high-volume surface-mount assembly, wafer-level semiconductor packaging, and many more applications requiring precision deposition of advanced materials. We were at the forefront of solar cell manufacture in the late 1970s, delivering systems to customers in India, Taiwan and China. Our thick film expertise was later transferred to DEK Japan, where equipment development and process refinement continued.
In 2008, we officially launched DEK Solar, drawing on our established expertise in the field to offer the industry a truly unique proposition. This development saw the dawn of a new range of advanced PV cell manufacturing solutions to accommodate the demanding needs of the industry going forward.
For example, our PV3000 line is a very high throughput metallization solution that deploys patented multiple print heads operating in parallel. With the PV3000, sheer performance is only one benefit to manufacturers chasing demanding production targets: if one head halts for operator attention, the others continue to print – virtually eliminating downtime to maximise productivity.
Based on our multi-award-winning SMT platform philosophy, our solar metallization solutions bring unprecedented advances to the industry, including:
Proven print accuracy and repeatability
6-sigma print-on-print capability
Compact footprint
Intrinsic modularity
Lead times of weeks, not months
Comprehensive global support infrastructure
Today, the PV sector is growing rapidly and needs progressive manufacturing solutions. It’s a business we understand and know. Our Centres of Excellence in China, Germany, UK and USA put hundreds of experienced DEK Solar experts within close range of customers around the world. Plus, our Development Engineers’ continued commitment to innovation means that we will never rest in our quest to pioneer unprecedented advances in photovoltaics – boosting production speed, throughput and precision for an even brighter tomorrow.

DEK International GmbH receives Intel’s prestigious Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement award.
ZURICH, Switzerland, March 4, 2010 – DEK International GmbH. has been recognized as one of 10 suppliers to receive Intel Corporation’s prestigious Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement (SCQI) award. The award recognizes extraordinary commitment to quality and exceptional performance to Intel’s goals and is the company’s highest honor for its suppliers. In 2009 DEK provided solder paste and flux printing equipment deemed vital to Intel’s success.
“DEK’s inclusion in Intel’s 2009 Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement award program, along with our previous award wins, further underscores our ‘expect more’ philosophy and alignment with Intel’s market strategy,” comments Michael Brianda, president, DEK International. “Particularly given the challenges of the past year, DEK’s supply chain agility and continuous investment in product development and service proved keys to success – not just to weather the financial impact of 2009, but to ensure sustainable initiatives going forward.”
“Congratulations to DEK for their second SCQI award and their sixth Intel quality award. As we continue to raise the bar, DEK has met and exceeded our expectations by delivering equipment early and meeting changing and demanding requirements. DEK has worked closely with Intel by supporting numerous value added programs and initiatives which have resulted in gains for both companies,” says Ron Rinfret, Assembly Capital Equipment Development director, Intel.
The SCQI award is part of Intel’s Supplier Continuous Quality Improvement program, which encourages Intel’s key suppliers to strive for excellence and continuous improvement. To qualify for SCQI status, suppliers must score at least 95 percent on a report card that assesses performance and ability to meet cost, quality, availability, delivery, technology and customer satisfaction goals. Suppliers must also achieve 90 percent or greater on a challenging improvement plan and demonstrate solid quality and business systems. Furthermore, this year’s awardees demonstrated compliance to the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition Code of Conduct and Intel’s Environmental Social Governance Program. Additional information about the SCQI program is available at http://supplier.intel.com/quality
Celebrations to honor the SCQI award winners will be held in conjunction with Intel’s Supplier Day events in Tokyo, Japan and Anaheim, California during the month of March 2010. In addition, an announcement will run in the March 31 U.S. edition and April 1 Europe and Asia editions of The Wall Street Journal with acknowledgement on Intel’s corporate Web site, www.intel.com

Solar Industry Award at EU PVSEC 2009
The team at DEK Solar is currently celebrating a historic award win, having topped the hotly-contested PV Process Equipment category at the Solar Industry Awards., the Solar Industry Award was presented to DEK’s Alternative Energy Business Manager, Darren Brown and Solar Engineering Programme Manager, Richard Willshere at the recent European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition.
Forming one of the highlights of the show for the DEK Solar Team, the Solar Industry Awards saw the company triumph in the programme’s most fiercely competitive category. Voted for by members of the public rather than a closed panel, the PV Process Equipment category attracted the highest number of votes, which eventually cast the PVP1200 as a best-in-class solar technology. Delivering the high yields and throughput rates required by the solar processing sector, the PVP1200 has driven unprecedented high accuracy metallization of crystalline silicon solar cells. All the features of the PVP1200 that provide its clear competitive edge come from its innovative design. Exceptionally compact, the modular platform makes the most of factory floor space while dedicated handling for thin wafers maximizes yield.
Commenting on DEK Solar’s award win, Darren Brown explains: “We’re immensely proud of what we have achieved since our entry into the alternative energies market so it’s extremely gratifying to be rewarded in this way. This award is particularly special because it was voted for by members of the public; people who have seen what a difference the platform has made to the industry and, most importantly, to the bottom line of their business. We launched the PVP1200 at EU PVSEC in 2008 – so to return a year later and collect an industry award for its contribution to the quest for grid parity is fantastic. Having launched our new PV3000 metallization solution at the show this year – who knows what 2010 has in store for us and our customers!”
Held in Hamburg from September 21st – 25th, this year’s EU PVSEC exhibition delivered a fitting platform for DEK Solar to celebrate its successful transition from emerging force to established competitor in today’s solar market. Celebrating the European launch of the company’s highly anticipated PV3000 metallization solution and the contribution of its popular PVP1200 metallization platform, the DEK Solar stand attracted an extremely high number of visitors. Darren concludes: “As only our second year at the show, EU PVSEC 2009 has consolidated our position in this growing marketplace. Generating substantial interest from high-profile system integrators and turnkey providers, the PV1200 and PV3000 metallization lines look set to continue this success rate through 2010 and beyond.”
